Clearcoat doesn’t give you a redo, which means a paint correction quote has to do more than name a package and a total. The buyer wants proof you’ll measure paint depth, tape edges, and stop before correction turns into haze or a burned-through corner, and they need that promise in writing before the car gets booked in.

The Paint Correction Quote starts with what the finish needs to look like under inspection lighting, then walks through how the inspection, test spot, and correction get chosen panel by panel. The document also calls out what doesn’t get chased if a deeper mark would cost too much clearcoat, so the client sees the boundary before they see the price. Purple and teal accents sit under Raleway headings with Roboto body text, so the process reads like measured steps instead of sales copy.

  • Summary Frames the finish goal, the clearcoat-first approach, and what gets documented during inspection and correction.
  • What it costs Carries the priced items for the core stages, leaving you to replace the template prices with your own.
  • Optional work Adds a second priced list the client can choose from when inspection shows something worth doing.
  • Next steps Includes the fee summary and the signature, plus the 50% booking payment and what you need for inspection.
  • Changes to the work Explains how scope changes get approved in writing and repeats the payment timing and handover sign-off.

Once the pricing is filled in, the proposal goes out, the client picks the work they want, and they sign online. The template already includes the 50% booking payment and the balance due on completion, plus a written path for changes if the test spot forces a different plan.

We went from spending hours on every proposal to creating fully customized ones in under 5 minutes. That's not an exaggeration - we timed it.

What to include in a paint correction quote

PartWhat it covers

Summary

Explains what “even under inspection lighting” means for the finish and ties the job to paint measurements, not package names.

How the job runs

Describes the check-in, wash, measurement, test spot, and correction sequence so the client knows what happens before compounding starts.

Paint depth reading sheet

Defines the readings, the documented test spot plan, and what “completed correction” means across the agreed panels.

Isolated wet sanding (if needed)

Limits sanding to specific defects agreed after inspection and notes the photos and care notes delivered at handover.

What it costs

Holds the priced items for the main stages, with pricing based on paint size, hardness, and test spot results.

Optional work

Lists add-ons as separate priced items so the client can approve extra work without changing the core scope.

Next steps

Collects acceptance with a signature and a fee summary, including 50% to book and the balance due when finished.

Inspection first

Spells out what gets checked during inspection, clearcoat limits, and what happens with overnight storage during the job.

Changes to the work

Says changes get re-quoted and approved in writing, then covers payment terms, handover sign-off, and photo usage.

Who it is for

Detailers quoting paint correction work for clients who want clarity on clearcoat limits, inspection steps, and what gets approved before compounding starts.

The proposal in full

Summary

You get paint that looks even under LED light, with swirls knocked back and gloss brought up, plus a written record of what the paint could safely take and what we chose not to chase.

You reached out after seeing marks under hard lights and you want the finish right for photos, a sale, or a coating. We measure, tape edges, and prove the approach with a test spot before we commit. Next, we book an inspection and send a written estimate.

We start by measuring paint depth and doing a small test area, then we choose the mildest combination that gives a clean finish. If a deeper scratch needs more clearcoat than we’re happy to spend, we’ll leave it reduced and even, and show you why under our lights.

How the job runs

We build the job around what the paint measures, not what a package name says, and we stop where the clearcoat says stop.

1. Check-in and wash Day 1 Confirm the goals with you, note existing chips and edges, then wash with a safe two-bucket method. Decontaminate with iron remover and clay where needed so the inspection shows defects in the paint, not dirt bonded on top. 2. Measure and test Day 1 Take paint depth readings across panels, then mask badges, sharp edges, and sensitive trim. Cut and polish a test spot to set the combination, then show you what changes and what stays so you can choose the correction level. 3. Correct the paint Days 1-2 Machine compound the main panels to remove the bulk of swirls and haze, then refine with a finishing polish to bring the clarity back. Keep pad and product choices consistent panel to panel so the finish stays even under inspection lighting. 4. Final wipe and handover Day 2 Do an alcohol-based wipe-down to remove polishing oils, then inspect under our lights from multiple angles. Photograph the result, write down the readings and approach used, and walk you around the car so you can see what improved and what was left alone.

Paint depth reading sheet

A written set of paint depth readings by panel, with notes on thinner areas and edges so the correction level is based on measurements, not guesses.

TEST SPOT RESULT AND PLAN

A documented test spot location and the pad and polish combination chosen, plus the target level of defect removal agreed before we correct the rest of the car.

COMPLETED PAINT CORRECTION

Single-stage, two-stage, or three-stage paint correction across the agreed panels, finished down to an even gloss with no patchy sections left from changing combinations mid-job.

Isolated wet sanding (if needed)

Wet sanding on specific defects only, agreed in writing after inspection, followed by compounding and refining to blend the area back into the surrounding finish.

FINAL INSPECTION PHOTOS

A set of before and after photos under inspection lighting that show the finish and remaining deeper marks, so you can see what changed without relying on memory.

CARE NOTES FOR SAFER WASHING

A one-page set of wash and drying notes focused on swirl prevention, including what to avoid at hand washes so the corrected finish stays looking sharp longer.

What it costs

Pricing is based on paint size, hardness, and what the test spot shows the clearcoat will safely take.

Priced items

Optional work

We’ll confirm any optional work after the paint readings and test spot.

Next steps

If you want us to hold time for your car, the next step is to lock the booking and get the inspection details in place.

1. Sign the proposal so we can reserve the slot for the work. 2. Pay 50% to book the job, with the remaining 50% due when the job is finished. 3. Send photos or book an in-person inspection so we can issue the written estimate.

Inspection first

We start with a wash, paint depth readings, and a taped test spot. That test spot sets the plan for the rest of the paint correction, and it shows what we can improve without pushing clearcoat.

Clearcoat limits. We won’t chase a mark that risks thinning the clearcoat too far, burning an edge, or leaving haze. If a deeper scratch can’t be removed safely, we’ll reduce it and leave the finish even.

Time with the car. Paint correction is booked for Day 1 to Day 2. The car stays indoors overnight during the job, and we’ll tell you the pickup window as soon as the test spot is approved.

Client prep. Please bring the car in reasonably empty so we can access panels and boot shuts. Tell us about any fresh paintwork, previous wet sanding, or thin spots you already know about before we start.

Changes to the work

If the test spot shows the paint needs a different approach than expected, we’ll send an updated written estimate before we continue. We only proceed with changes after you approve them in writing.

Payment. To book the work, we take 50% when the proposal is signed. The remaining 50% is due when the job is finished. All invoices are payable within 14 days of the invoice date.

Handover and sign-off. At handover, we’ll walk the car under our lights and share the final inspection photos and care notes. Once the car leaves with you, we can’t be responsible for new wash marring or road damage.

Ownership of photos. You own the car and we don’t claim any rights to it. We may use inspection and after photos of the paintwork for our portfolio unless you tell us in writing not to.

Questions about this proposal template

What should a paint correction quote include?

A paint correction quote should explain how the correction level is chosen, what work is included, and what it costs per stage. This template covers the inspection and test spot approach, priced stages, payment timing, and how changes get approved if the plan shifts after measuring.

How do you explain clearcoat limits in writing without scaring a client off?

Clearcoat limits read best as a boundary, not a warning: what you won’t do, and what you’ll do instead. The template says deeper defects may get reduced rather than fully removed when removal would risk thinning clearcoat too far or burning an edge.

Do I need paint depth readings and a test spot in the quote?

Paint depth readings and a test spot show how the correction plan gets chosen from measurements instead of guesses. The template includes a paint depth reading sheet and a documented test spot plan before the rest of the correction proceeds.

Can a client choose between correction stages or add-ons?

Clients often want to approve core correction first, then decide on extras after inspection. The template separates the main stages under pricing and keeps optional work in its own priced section so the client can choose items.

How should payment work for paint correction bookings?

Many detailers take a booking payment to hold time, then collect the balance on completion. This template includes 50% due when the proposal is signed and the remaining 50% due when the job is finished, with invoices payable within 14 days of the invoice date.

What happens if the test spot changes the plan or price?

A quote needs a written rule for changes so the client doesn’t feel surprised mid-job. The template says an updated written estimate gets sent if the test spot shows a different approach is needed, and work only continues after written approval.
