It covers the book writing project you’ve accepted in our proposal, and it sets out how we’ll work together from first interview through to handover of the final manuscript package.
If anything in the proposal and these terms don’t line up, we’ll talk it through and confirm in writing what we’re both working to, before we rely on it. Otherwise, the proposal and the terms below are read as one set of practical rules for the job.
Scope of work
We’ll deliver the book writing work described in the accepted proposal. The items below are the deliverables we’re responsible for producing, and they’re what our price and timeline are built around.
To keep the project moving, we’ll also need your weekly input in the rhythm we agree at the start. In practice that means one recorded interview block each week, plus the notes, emails, links, and “don’t miss this” points that belong with that chapter. Jordan sends the agenda in advance so you’re not guessing what to bring.
* Voice sample and style sheet * Chapter plan and beat outline * Draft manuscript * Rewrite pass after mark-up * Final manuscript package * Interview recording library
Payment
To book the work, you pay 30% of the total price when the proposal is signed. We schedule interviews and start planning once that first invoice is paid.
The remaining 70% is due when we hand over the finished work, which means the final manuscript package is ready and delivered to you. We invoice at those two points. Each invoice is payable within 14 days of its date.
If an invoice goes past due, we’ll pause new writing and editing until the account is brought up to date, and we’ll confirm any knock-on changes to delivery dates. We’ll always tell you before a pause affects the schedule.
Reviews and rewrites
Our price includes one rewrite pass after your mark-up on the draft manuscript. A “rewrite pass” means we take your notes, resolve what you’ve flagged, and deliver a revised manuscript. It’s built for the real work of memoir and business books: accuracy, voice, pacing, and what to include or hold back.
We’ll agree up front how you’ll give mark-up so it’s easy to action. If a review round pauses for more than two weeks, we’ll reschedule the next delivery date so the team can keep other projects moving.
If you want changes beyond the included rewrite pass, or you ask for new material outside the agreed scope, we’ll price it and get your written approval before we start.
Who owns what
Once the final invoice is paid, you own the manuscript text we write for you. You can publish it, edit it further, and use it in other formats (talks, articles, podcasts, courses) without coming back to us for permission.
You also own the interview recordings. We’ll use the recordings, notes, and drafts only to write, edit, and back up this project, and we’ll only share them inside our team working on your book writing.
What we keep is the working backbone we use to do the job: our checklists, templates, internal process notes, and any tools we’ve developed over time. We may also keep working files and backups as needed to run the project and protect against data loss.
Responsibilities
We’ll take care with how we handle your material, but we can’t promise outcomes we don’t control, like agent interest, publisher decisions, sales, reviews, media coverage, or legal clearance from third parties.
You’re responsible for the truth and permission side of your story: the facts you give us, the right to share them, and the decision to name or not name people and organisations. When something feels sensitive, we’ll flag it in the draft and talk it through before we rewrite. We’ll agree the approach in plain terms, for example anonymise, reframe, corroborate, or hold it out.
If we make a mistake, our job is to fix the manuscript work. We don’t cover indirect knock-on losses that sit outside the writing and editing itself.
Ending the project
Either of us can end the project by giving notice. We’ll agree the notice period with you in writing, based on where we are in the schedule and what’s already booked in the team diary.
If the project ends, you pay for the work completed up to the end date. We’ll itemise what’s done and what’s in progress, and we’ll invoice accordingly under the same 14 day payment terms.
After payment for work to date is received, we’ll hand over what we’ve produced so far in usable form, along with the interview recording library and the latest manuscript files. We’ll also confirm, in a short handover note, what’s still outstanding and what we recommend as the next step if you continue with another writer or in-house.
