Contact custom fields
Custom fields extend People and Company records beyond the built-in fields, so any data specific to your business can be captured, filtered, and used for segmentation. Eleven field types cover text, dates, selections, and references, each appearing on the contact detail page alongside the standard fields.
Available field types
Eleven field types are available for contacts:
- Text: a free-text field for any short string.
- Link: a clickable URL field for websites, LinkedIn profiles, or portfolio links.
- Date: a date picker for birthdays, contract start dates, renewal dates, or similar.
- Dropdown: a single-select list of predefined options.
- Multi-select: a multi-select list where more than one option can be chosen.
- Checkbox: a true/false toggle for binary data like "NDA signed" or "VIP".
- Currency: a monetary value with currency symbol.
- Rating: a star-based rating for scoring leads, satisfaction, or priority.
- Contacts: a reference to another contact in the CRM, useful for linking referrals or account managers.
- Slider: a numeric value on a sliding scale.
- Range: a minimum and maximum value pair.
Filtering and segmentation
Custom fields appear as filter options in the contacts list. A dropdown field like "Lead Source" can filter the list to show only contacts from a specific channel. A rating field can sort contacts by score. Because custom fields integrate into the contacts list filters, the CRM adapts to your business categories without needing a separate tool for segmentation.
