The coat’s matted, the dog’s stressed, and nobody wants a surprise shave or a nick that turns into an argument later. A pet grooming contract gives the owner the terms in writing before the appointment, including when you’ll stop, call, and agree a way forward if grooming can’t be done safely. The pages sit under Syne headings with Inter body text, with a soft lavender base and a deep olive accent.

The opening explains how sessions run and what to expect on the day, then What your session includes spells out intake checks, common services, drop-off pickup windows, and when you’ll contact the owner mid-appointment. Payment covers paying in advance, how packs work, and the promise that any add-on or coat-salvage change gets priced before you go ahead. The later sections name normal grooming risks, draw a line between grooming and veterinary care, and explain what happens in an emergency if you can’t reach the owner... followed by Ending services, which covers when either side can stop and includes the signature block.

  • These terms explain how I work Sets expectations for how grooming is handled, including the tricky moments like matting, stress, or a pet that can’t be handled safely.
  • What your session includes Describes intake checks, the types of services that may be included, how drop-off and pickup windows work, and when you’ll contact the owner during the appointment.
  • Payment States when sessions and packs are paid, when invoices are due if one is issued, and how you price and approve any changes after booking.
  • Normal grooming risks Names the ordinary risks in grooming and explains the care you take to reduce them, plus what happens if a mistake occurs.
  • Ending services Explains how either side can end the arrangement, when you may stop service for safety reasons, and collects signatures to confirm the terms.

Once the wording matches your own policies, you fill in the names, dates, and any rates you quote, then send the contract out for online signature. The signed copy comes back with the agreement recorded, so the next booking and any pack sessions run under the same terms.

We went from spending hours on every proposal to creating fully customized ones in under 5 minutes. That's not an exaggeration - we timed it.

Who it is for

Groomers offering routine coat and nail care, including mobile grooming appointments, breed styling work, and spa & bathing services where an owner needs the terms in writing before booking or drop-off.

The contract in full

These terms explain how I work with you, what you can expect on the day, and how I handle the common tricky moments in grooming, like matting, stress, or a pet that can’t be handled safely.

When you book, you are asking me to provide pet grooming services for your pet, and you agree to these terms alongside any accepted proposal or booking confirmation I have sent.

What your session includes

A session is one booked appointment for pet grooming. At check-in I do an intake check of coat, skin, ears, and nails, then I carry out the service you booked, which may include bath and blow-dry, brush-out, clip and scissor finish, de-shedding, de-matting, nail trim and grind, pads, and a sanitary tidy.

Most appointments are drop-off. I will confirm the address and your pickup window when you arrive, and I will contact you if anything changes during the appointment. Please bring any muzzle you already use, and let me know about recent injuries, skin issues, or handling sensitivities before I start.

Payment

Pet grooming sessions are paid for in advance. If you book a single session, payment is due when you book it. If you buy a pack, the pack is paid before its first session.

If I issue an invoice for any reason, every invoice is payable within 14 days of its date. If you ask for something that changes the plan after booking, like extra de-matting time, a coat salvage approach, or an add-on treatment, I will tell you the price before I go ahead so you can choose how you want to proceed.

Changes, late cancellations, no-shows

If you need to cancel or move an appointment, please give me the notice period I set at the time of booking. I set that notice period based on the service length and how hard the slot is to refill, and I will always tell you before you confirm.

If you cancel late or do not show up, I may charge the late-cancellation or no-show fee I set for that booking. If I need to cancel due to illness, equipment issues, or an unsafe condition at the workspace, I will offer you the choice of rescheduling or crediting any prepaid amount to a future appointment.

Using a pack

A pack is a prepaid block of pet grooming sessions. You book individual sessions from your pack the same way you book a single appointment. Packs are for the pets and services we agreed when you purchased the pack. If you want to use a pack for a different pet or a different type of service, ask first and I will confirm what is possible.

If I apply an expiry period to a pack, I set it and I will state it before you pay. If I do not apply an expiry period, unused sessions simply stay on your account until they are used. Refunds are not automatic, but if something changes on your side, talk to me and I will be fair based on what has been used and what has already been booked.

Normal grooming risks

You are choosing pet grooming because it helps your pet’s comfort and coat care, but grooming still has ordinary risks. These can include minor nicks around matted areas, irritation from brushing or clipper heat, quicked nails, stress reactions, or a pet moving suddenly during handling.

I take reasonable care to reduce these risks by checking the coat and skin first, using safe handling and tools, and slowing down when a pet is stressed. This does not cover carelessness on my part. If I make a mistake, I will tell you what happened and what I recommend you do next, including vet care when that is the sensible option.

Your pet’s safety

Please keep your pet’s vaccinations, parasite prevention, and general health care up to date for their lifestyle, and tell me anything I should know before I start. That includes recent surgery, skin flare-ups, ear infections, seizure history, arthritis or pain, bite history, fear of dryers, and any areas your pet does not like touched.

I do not sedate pets. I can do cats for nail trim and grind, and some grooming by discussion, but if your pet cannot be handled safely without medication, I will stop and recommend a vet clinic.

If there is an emergency and I cannot reach you quickly, you give me permission to seek veterinary care for your pet. You are responsible for the vet’s fees and any related costs.

What pet grooming is not

Pet grooming is coat, skin, and nail care. It is not veterinary treatment, and I cannot diagnose skin conditions, prescribe medication, or promise a medical outcome.

I also cannot guarantee your pet’s behaviour during handling, especially with pain, fear, or severe matting involved. If I see anything that looks like it needs medical attention, I will point it out and suggest you check in with a vet. If your pet is in pain, unwell, or recovering from an injury, please choose the right professional first, and book grooming once it is safe to do so.

Ending services

Either of us can end the arrangement. If you do not want to book again, just tell me. If you have future appointments booked, my normal cancellation rules still apply, including the notice period and any late-cancellation or no-show fee I set for that booking.

I may also stop providing pet grooming to you if your conduct makes sessions unsafe, if you repeatedly miss appointments or ignore my safety instructions, or if your pet cannot be handled safely without sedation. In that case I will stop the service at the point I reach, explain why, and talk you through next steps. Any prepaid sessions that I have not delivered will be handled fairly based on what has been used and what is already booked.

Questions about this contract template

Do pet grooming clients need to sign a contract?

A signed contract gives both sides a clear record of the safety limits, payment terms, and what happens if grooming can’t be completed as planned. The agreement matters most when the coat condition or behaviour changes what can be done on the day.

What should a pet grooming contract say about matting and shaving?

The terms need to say what happens when matting makes brushing unsafe, including when grooming stops and the owner gets contacted before a major change like shaving. The contract can also explain the normal risks around matted areas, such as minor nicks or irritation.

Do groomers sedate cats or dogs for grooming?

This contract states that pets aren’t sedated. The terms also say grooming stops if a pet can’t be handled safely without medication, and a vet clinic gets recommended instead.

What should a grooming contract include about drop-off and pickup?

A grooming contract can spell out whether appointments are drop-off, how the pickup window is confirmed, and when the groomer will contact the owner if anything changes during the session. The same section can cover what gets checked at intake before the groom begins.

How do grooming contracts handle cancellations and no-shows?

The contract can define the notice period given at booking and when late-cancellation or no-show fees may apply. The same terms can cover what happens if the groomer has to cancel, including rescheduling or crediting prepaid amounts.

What’s the difference between pet grooming and veterinary care in a contract?

A grooming contract can state that grooming is coat, skin, and nail care, not veterinary treatment, and that medical outcomes can’t be promised. The terms can also explain that anything that looks like a medical issue gets pointed out and referred to a vet.
