A booking gets made, keys change hands, and then someone needs a pet sitting contract that says what care is actually covered and what happens if plans shift. This Pet Sitting Contract puts the routine, access, and boundaries in writing so the owner isn’t left wondering if the visit happened, and the sitter isn’t guessing which instructions matter most. The pages sit under Lora headings in a lavender-grey with a clear green accent, so the important bits read like service terms, not a chat thread.

The opening section spells out the in-home care being provided and what has to come from the owner for the home to stay secure, then What you’re booking defines a “session” and ties the schedule to whatever sits on the invoice. Payment covers when invoicing happens and when it’s due, while Changes and cancellations points back to the notice window and any late-cancellation or no-show fee shown on the invoice. The middle sections cover everyday handling risks, medication and emergency vet permission, and the practical stuff that causes most friction, like keys, gate codes, and building security, leaving “this is not veterinary treatment” clear in black and white.

  • This Pet Sitting Contract sets out States the service and the basic deal, including how conflicts in writing get flagged and resolved before the booking starts.
  • What you’re booking Defines a session, what care gets followed during a visit or walk, and what access and supplies the owner needs to provide.
  • Payment Explains when invoicing happens, when invoices are due, and how price changes get confirmed in writing before extra work is done.
  • Keys and home access Covers how keys and entry codes get handled, what happens if access fails at the booked time, and when a visit may count as missed.
  • Ending the arrangement Sets out notice, immediate stop conditions for unsafe or unlawful situations, and includes a Signature block for signing.

Once the contract is in Plutio, you fill in your names, dates, and rates, send it to the client, and they sign online. The signed copy becomes the shared reference for the schedule, access rules, and what happens if someone needs to pause or end the recurring arrangement.

We went from spending hours on every proposal to creating fully customized ones in under 5 minutes. That's not an exaggeration - we timed it.

What to include in a pet sitting contract

PartWhat it covers

This Pet Sitting Contract sets out

Opens with the service you’re providing in-home and the information you need back so care stays safe and the home stays secure. Includes a clause for resolving conflicting instructions before the booking starts.

What you’re booking

Defines a session as a visit or walk, and ties the session count to the current invoice period or pack. Lists the routine notes, supplies, and entry access the owner provides.

Payment

Explains when you invoice for one-off bookings and recurring periods, and that invoices are due within 7 days. Covers how extra visits or added medication tasks get priced and confirmed in writing before you do them.

Changes and cancellations

Covers how date and time changes are handled and where the cancellation notice window and fees appear. Explains what counts as a late cancellation or no-show, and what happens if you cancel.

Using a pack or period

Explains how sessions get used from a pack or membership period and what happens when the pattern changes. Points to the invoice or booking confirmation for carry-over, expiry, and refund rules.

Everyday risks

Sets expectations for ordinary risks in pet sitting and walking, and the line between sensible care and negligence. Clarifies that unpredictability isn’t the same as a promise of no problems.

Your pet’s details

Collects the handling, health, and behaviour information needed for safe care, plus vaccination and prevention expectations. Includes permission to take a pet to a vet in an emergency and confirms the owner covers fees.

Keys and home access

Covers keys, entry codes, alarms, building rules, and how access details are kept and returned. Explains what happens if you can’t get in at the booked time and a visit can’t be completed safely.

What this is not

Draws a boundary around what in-home care does not include, like veterinary treatment, grooming, training, or guaranteed behaviour outcomes. Covers what happens when a pet seems unwell and how observations get shared.

Recurring schedule

Explains how recurring sessions run by billing period, when invoices go out, and when they’re due. Covers notice to pause or stop and how the end date gets confirmed in writing.

Ending the arrangement

Covers how either side ends the arrangement with notice, and what happens to sessions already booked and paid for. Includes conditions for stopping immediately on unsafe conduct, unlawful requests, or repeated access failures, plus a Signature for signing.

Who it is for

Pet sitters and dog walkers who need a signed agreement for in-home visits or recurring care, plus owners who want the routine, access, and cancellation terms in writing.

The contract in full

This Pet Sitting Contract sets out how I provide in-home pet sitting for you, and what I need from you so your pets are cared for safely and your home stays secure. If anything in writing conflicts, I’ll flag it before the booking starts so we can agree one version and follow it.

What you’re booking

One session is a single booked visit or walk that I complete at your home and the immediate area around it (for walks), following your notes on feeding, water, litter, toilet breaks, harness and lead use, and any medication you’ve booked in. You’re booking a recurring schedule, so the number of sessions comes from the current period or pack on your invoice, and each session happens on the date and time we agree. You provide working keys or entry access, supplies (food, litter, poo bags, medication), and clear written routine notes.

Payment

I invoice at the time of booking. If you book a membership or a term, I invoice at the start of each period, before the sessions in that period take place. Nothing is paid up front beyond the invoice for the booking, pack, or period you’ve chosen.

Every invoice is payable within 7 days of its date. If you want me to add something that changes the price, like extra visits, longer sits, or additional medication tasks, I’ll confirm the change and any extra cost in writing before I do it.

Changes and cancellations

If you need to cancel, skip a visit, or change dates or times, tell me as soon as you can so I can try to adjust the schedule. My cancellation notice window, and any late-cancellation or no-show fee, are set by me and shown on your invoice.

If a session is cancelled late or you’re not available for handover and I can’t complete the visit, it may be treated as a late cancellation or no-show, because I’ve kept the time aside and travelled. If I ever need to cancel a session, I’ll tell you as early as I can and you won’t be charged for the session I cancel.

Using a pack or period

If you’ve bought a pack, block, or membership period, sessions are used as you book them in. Once a session is completed, it counts as used. If you want to change the pattern, like swapping walks for drop-ins, ask first so I can confirm availability and any price difference.

Whether unused sessions carry over, whether a pack expires, and when refunds are available are decisions I set, and I show the rules for your booking on your invoice or booking confirmation. In general, I’m fair about genuine emergencies, but I need the rules in writing so we both know where we stand.

Everyday risks

You’re booking in-home pet sitting and walking because you want practical care while you’re away or at work, and you understand there are ordinary risks in this kind of work. Pets can pull on the lead, slip a collar, refuse food, have an upset stomach, hide, scratch, bite, or react to heat, noise, other animals, people, or changes to routine.

I take sensible care, I follow your instructions, and I won’t take avoidable risks. This clause does not cover anything caused by my carelessness or ignoring your written instructions. It also isn’t a promise that nothing can go wrong, because animals and environments can be unpredictable.

Your pet’s details

You agree your pets are legally kept, and that vaccinations, parasite prevention, and any routine care you rely on are kept up to date for your situation. Before the first session, you tell me anything that affects safe handling, including bites or snapping, escape attempts, fear of strangers, dog reactivity, cat hiding spots, guarding food or toys, and any health issue that changes normal care.

If there’s an emergency and I can’t reach you quickly, you give me permission to take your pet to a vet using the details you’ve provided, and you agree you’re responsible for vet fees and related costs. I’ll contact you as soon as I can and keep you updated.

Keys and home access

Before the first booking, you’ll give me the keys, entry codes, and the exact steps you want followed, including building security rules, parking notes, gate and lift instructions, and anything I need to know about alarms. I only use the access details you provide, and I keep them only for the time I’m working with you. I return keys the way we agree at the end of the booking or when our recurring schedule ends.

If I arrive at the booked time and can’t get in, or I’m stopped by building security because I’m not on the authorised list, I’ll contact you straight away. If I can’t access the home in time to safely complete the session, it may count as a missed visit.

What this is not

In-home pet sitting is practical care and routine cover. It is not veterinary treatment, grooming, training, or behaviour work, and I can’t guarantee results like calm behaviour, no barking, perfect toileting, or normal eating while you’re away. If your pet is unwell, in pain, or showing worrying symptoms, you should contact a vet, and I’ll support that by sharing what I’ve observed during my visit.

If you want help with training or behaviour, I can follow your written handling notes, but you’ll need the right qualified professional for assessment and a plan.

Recurring schedule

Your bookings run as recurring, which means you have an ongoing rhythm of sessions that repeats each billing period. I invoice at the start of each period, before the sessions in that period take place, and invoices are payable within 7 days of their date.

To stop or pause the recurring schedule, you give me notice. The notice period is set by me and confirmed in writing on your invoice or booking confirmation, because it depends on how often you book and what time slots I’m holding for you. I’ll confirm the end date in writing so you know exactly which sessions are included.

Ending the arrangement

Either of us can end this arrangement by giving notice in writing. The notice period is set by me and confirmed in writing for your booking, so it’s unambiguous for both of us. Sessions already booked and paid for will either be delivered as planned during the notice period, or handled as a cancellation, depending on your preference and what I can fit in.

I may stop providing in-home pet sitting immediately if your conduct, or the pet’s behaviour, makes the work unsafe, if I’m asked to do something unlawful, or if I’m repeatedly unable to access the home at the booked times. If this happens, I’ll tell you what I’ve done so far and what still needs cover.

Questions about this contract template

What should a pet sitting contract include?

A pet sitting contract usually covers the service being provided, what counts as a session, the routine and supplies the owner must provide, and how access works. This one also covers payment timing and due dates, cancellations, everyday risks, emergency vet permission, and how either side ends the arrangement.

Does pet sitting include dog walking or just home visits?

Pet sitting can mean home visits, walks, or both, depending on what’s booked. This contract defines a session as a single visit or walk completed at the home and the immediate area around it for walks.

Can a pet sitter give medication, and what information is needed?

Medication can be part of the booked care when the owner provides clear written routine notes and the medication itself. This contract also asks for any handling or health details that affect safe care, and it includes permission to seek veterinary help in an emergency if the owner can’t be reached quickly.

How do pet sitters handle keys, gate codes, and building security?

Access works off the keys, entry codes, and steps the owner provides, including notes for alarms and building rules. This contract covers how access details are used and returned, and what happens if the sitter can’t get in at the booked time.

What happens if a pet sitting visit is cancelled late or the sitter can’t get access?

Late-cancellation and no-show rules are set by the sitter and shown on the invoice. This contract explains that a late cancellation can apply when the time was held and travel happened, and that a visit may count as missed if access fails in time to complete it safely.

How do you end a recurring pet sitting schedule?

Ending a recurring schedule happens with notice, and the notice period is confirmed in writing on the invoice or booking confirmation. This contract also explains how already booked sessions are handled during the notice period and when the sitter may stop immediately for safety or unlawful requests.
