Summary
You’ll know what’s causing the noise, vibration, overheating, or warning light, what’s urgent, and what it will cost to fix, before you commit to repairs.
Most people call us after hearing “need to change” a few parts and wanting to know what’s actually required before they approve anything. You’ll leave with a written fault report, clear priorities, and parts options priced so you can decide without guessing. If you’re ready, we’ll book a slot and start with a scan and road test.
We start by confirming the complaint on a road test, then we scan the car and inspect it on the lift. We separate what’s failed from what’s just worn, and we write the estimate the way we’d want it written: “must fix”, “should plan”, and “can wait”, with parts options and labour time shown.
How the job runs
We work from symptom to proof, then from proof to an estimate you can approve line by line.
1. Check-in and notes Day 1 Confirm the symptoms you want us to focus on, record mileage, warning lights, and any recent work. Note when the issue happens (cold start, braking, at speed) so we can reproduce it on the road test. 2. Road test Day 1 Drive the car to reproduce the concern and note the conditions that trigger it. Check drivability, braking feel, steering pull, vibration, temperature behaviour, and any noises under load, coasting, and low-speed turning. 3. Scan and printout Day 1 Run an OBD diagnostic scan, record fault codes, and pull key live data related to the complaint. Save the results and flag which codes are current, which are history, and which need confirmation testing. 4. Lift inspection and tests Day 1 Inspect the underside on the lift with a visual check for leaks and damage. Check brakes and suspension for wear and play, inspect tyres, mounts and bushes, and run a cooling system pressure test when overheating or coolant loss is part of the complaint. 5. Strip inspection with photos Day 1-2 Strip only what we need to access the suspected area and confirm internal or hidden damage. Take clear photos of failed parts, measurements, and leak points, then stop once we have enough proof to price the correct fix. 6. Write-up and call Day 2 Write the procedure and labour time for each recommended repair, identify parts by exact spec, and price OEM and aftermarket options where available. Call you to run through “must fix”, “can wait”, and what we’d do next if you approve repairs.
OBD scan printout
A printed fault code report showing current and stored codes, plus the basic scan details used to support the findings for this mechanical repair inspection.
ROAD TEST FINDINGS NOTE
A short written note of what we felt and heard on the drive, including when the symptom appears and what driving condition triggers it.
LIFT INSPECTION CHECKLIST
A written undercarriage inspection summary covering leaks, brakes, suspension, tyres, and obvious impact or rubbing points found during the inspection.
Cooling pressure test result
A recorded result from a cooling system pressure test when relevant, including whether pressure holds and where coolant loss shows up during the test.
PHOTO SET OF FINDINGS
A set of inspection photos showing the actual failed or leaking areas we’re basing the estimate on, taken during the strip inspection where needed.
REPAIR ESTIMATE WRITE-UP
A written estimate that lists recommended repairs with labour time and procedure notes, plus parts identification and pricing for OEM and aftermarket options where available.
What it costs
This pricing covers the full mechanical repair inspection over Day 1 to Day 2, including the write-up and call.

Booking and payment
To book, you’ll pay 50% when you sign. The other 50% is due when the mechanical repair inspection is finished. Our invoices are payable within 14 days of the invoice date.
What we need from you. We need the car on-site for Day 1 and Day 2, the key, and permission to road test. Tell us about any warning lights, noises, overheating, or recent work before we start.
Strip inspection limits. A strip inspection means we open only what’s needed to see the suspected area. If we find we need to open further to confirm the cause, we’ll stop and call you first.
Parts pricing in the estimate. Parts pricing in the write-up is based on availability and pricing on the day we quote. OEM and aftermarket options can change week to week, so we’ll confirm final parts pricing before ordering.
Changes to the scope
If the mechanical repair inspection needs extra steps beyond the list in this document, we’ll tell you what the step is, why it’s needed, and what it costs before we do it.
Findings and urgency. In the write-up, we’ll split items into must fix and can wait based on safety, risk of breakdown, and likely further damage. You make the call on what to approve next.
If the problem comes back. We’ll base the estimate on what we can reproduce and measure during the inspection. If the symptoms change after repairs, or a separate fault shows up later, it may need a new inspection booking.
Ownership of the report. Once the invoice is paid, the OBD scan printout, photos, checklists, and the repair estimate write-up are yours to keep and share. We keep copies for our workshop records.
