Packages and add-ons on proposals
Packages and add-ons let clients choose between pricing tiers or toggle optional extras directly on a proposal. Both use the items block in cards view with selection behaviour pre-configured. The Packages and Addons presets in the block editor set everything up in one click, so you only need to fill in your actual services and prices.
Packages vs add-ons
Both presets create an items block in Cards view with client selection enabled, but the selection rules differ:
| Setting | Packages | Addons |
|---|---|---|
| Layout | Cards | Cards |
| Allow selection | Yes | Yes |
| Allow multiple | No (single selection) | Yes (multiple selection) |
| Selection required | Yes | No |
Packages forces the client to pick exactly one option. When the client selects a package, the previously selected package deselects automatically. The proposal total updates to reflect only the chosen package. This works well for tiered pricing: Basic, Standard, and Premium, where the client picks one tier.
Addons lets the client toggle any combination of items on or off. No selection is required, so the client can skip add-ons entirely or select several. The proposal total updates as items are toggled. This works well for optional extras like rush delivery, extra revisions, or additional deliverables that the client can stack on top of a base price.
Adding a packages preset
- Open the proposal in the block editor.
- Click the + button to open the block picker.
- Switch to the Presets tab.
- Click Packages.
- An items block appears in cards view with two sample items. Replace the sample titles and prices with your actual package names and rates.
- To add more packages, click Add item inside the items block.
The preset arrives with Allow selection on, Allow multiple off, and Selection required on. You don't need to change any settings unless you want to adjust the behaviour.
Adding an addons preset
- Open the proposal in the block editor.
- Click the + button to open the block picker.
- Switch to the Presets tab.
- Click Addons.
- An items block appears in cards view with three sample items. Replace the sample titles and prices with your actual add-on names and rates.
- To add more add-ons, click Add item inside the items block.
The preset arrives with Allow selection on, Allow multiple on, and Selection required off. Clients can select as many or as few add-ons as they want.
Building packages or add-ons manually
You don't have to use a preset. You can create the same result from a plain items block:
- Click the + button and add an Items block from the Sections tab.
- In the block settings popup that opens, set the View to Cards.
- Turn on Allow selection.
- For packages: turn off Allow multiple and turn on Selection required.
- For add-ons: turn on Allow multiple and turn off Selection required.
- Click Add to create the block, then fill in your items.
You can also convert an existing items block to packages or add-ons behaviour by opening Items settings from the block options menu and changing the selection toggles.
Adding images to package cards
Cards view supports images on each item. To add an image:
- Click on an item in the items block.
- Click the image area at the top of the card (or the image upload placeholder).
- Upload an image file. The image appears as a cover photo at the top of the card.
You can control the image size from Items settings. The image size options are Small, Medium, and Large. See items block (service table) for full details on image sizes and other block settings.
Per-item quantity controls
For add-ons where the client might want more than one of the same item, you can enable quantity controls on individual items:
- Click on the item in the items block to open the item editor.
- Open the item's settings.
- Turn on Allow client to change under the quantity field.
- Optionally set a Minimum and Maximum quantity to limit the range.
When the client views the proposal, a quantity adjuster appears on that item. The proposal total recalculates as the client changes the quantity.
Combining packages and add-ons
You can use both on the same proposal. A common layout is:
- A Packages items block where the client chooses one pricing tier.
- An Addons items block below where the client toggles optional extras.
- A standard Items block (table view) at the bottom for fixed line items that aren't selectable, like a setup fee or retainer.
The proposal total combines all active items across all items blocks in the document. The client sees one total that updates in real time as they make selections.
Saving as a template
If you use the same packages or add-ons structure across multiple proposals, save the section as a template:
- Hover over the section containing the items block.
- Click Save to templates in the section toolbar.
- Enter a name and confirm.
The saved template appears in the Templates tab of the block picker. You can insert the template into any new proposal, and it brings all the items, settings, and layout with it. For full document-level templates, see proposal and contract templates.
Tips
- Add a description to each package card explaining what's included. Clients see the title, description, image, and price on each card, so clear descriptions help them decide without asking follow-up questions.
- Use the design editor to style the items cards with matching colours, borders, and corner radius so the packages section fits the rest of the proposal's design.
- If you want the client to see a recommended package highlighted, you can style that section differently using the section-level design editor.
- When a proposal with packages or add-ons is accepted and auto-invoice is enabled, only the items the client actually selected carry over to the invoice.
- Packages and add-ons presets are only available on proposals. Invoices and contracts don't show the Packages and Addons presets in the block picker because those document types don't support client-side selection.
