File sharing

Any file in the file manager can be shared externally through a public link. You can also share files with clients through projects and the client portal.

How to generate a share link

  1. Right-click the file (or use the three-dot menu) to open the context menu.
  2. Select "Share" to open the sharing options.
  3. Copy the public link. The link opens a view-only version of the file by default, so recipients can see the content without making changes.
  4. Send the link to clients, collaborators, or anyone who needs access.

How to control download permissions

  1. Open the sharing options for the file.
  2. Toggle downloads on or off. Enabling downloads lets recipients save a copy to their device. Disabling downloads limits access to view-only, so the file can be reviewed through the browser but not saved or forwarded.

How to password-protect a shared link

  1. Open the sharing options for the file.
  2. Enable password protection and enter a password.
  3. Share the link and the password separately. Anyone opening the link gets prompted to enter the password before the file loads. Combining password protection with disabled downloads means a shared file can be viewed by the right people without being copied or redistributed.

How to revoke access

  1. Open the sharing options for the file.
  2. Revoke the shared link. Once revoked, the link stops working immediately and anyone who previously had access can no longer view the file.
  3. Generate a new link if you need to reshare with different settings.

Files shared through projects

Files uploaded to a project follow the project's permission settings. If a client has access to a project, files within that project are visible to the client automatically, with no need to generate a separate public link. Files attached to invoices, proposals, and contracts are also visible when the client views those documents.
