How to create a proposal with multiple pricing options
Proposals can present multiple pricing options so clients choose the service level that fits their needs and budget. Each option is built as a separate Items block, and when the client accepts and selects one, the chosen pricing can automatically generate a matching invoice.
- Create a new proposal. Open the proposals section from the main menu and click + New proposal to open the editor. Add a title, client, and any introductory content before building out the pricing section.
- Add the first Items block. In the proposal editor, click the + section adder and select Items from the sections list. This inserts a pricing block where you can add line items with descriptions, quantities, rates, and amounts. You can switch the block between Table view and Cards view using the layout setting inside the block. The first Items block represents your first pricing option, so give it a clear title like "Basic package".
- Add additional Items blocks. Add a second (and optionally third) Items block below the first. Each block represents a different pricing tier. Labels like "Standard package" and "Premium package" help clients understand the differences at a glance. Each block should have its own set of line items reflecting what that particular option includes.
- Enable option selection. Open the settings for an Items block by clicking its settings icon to open the Items settings popup. Enable Allow selecting/unselecting items to let clients select or deselect individual items. You can then choose between Can select multiple items and Can only select one item to control whether clients pick one or several items. You can also set whether Selecting items is optional or Selecting items is required. Configure each Items block the same way so the selection behavior is consistent across your pricing options.
- Preview and send. Click Preview to see the proposal exactly as the client will see it, including the selection interface. Once everything looks right, send the proposal via email or share it as a link. The client accepts by making their selection and clicking Accept.
How auto-invoicing handles the selected option
When a client accepts a proposal and selects items, Plutio can automatically generate an invoice from the chosen Items block. Auto-invoicing is enabled in the proposal's settings under Auto-invoice. The generated invoice includes the selected line items with the same descriptions, quantities, and amounts. This eliminates the need to manually create a matching invoice and prevents discrepancies between the proposal and the bill.
Tips for presenting pricing options
Keeping option names descriptive helps clients understand what they are comparing. Labels like "Website design only", "Website design + SEO setup", and "Full digital package" are clearer than "Option 1, 2, 3". Pricing tiers that build on each other, where each higher tier includes everything in the lower one plus extras, tend to convert better because the comparison is straightforward. Limiting options to two or three avoids overwhelming the client while still offering meaningful choice.
