Direct messages
One-on-one conversations between any two people in your workspace happen in real time, with messages appearing instantly on both sides. Direct messages support rich text formatting, file attachments, emoji reactions, and read receipts, so conversations carry context beyond plain text.
Sending and receiving messages
A direct message starts by selecting a recipient from your workspace. The recipient can be a team member or a client with workspace access. Messages are delivered instantly, and a notification reaches the other person through the inbox, push notifications, and email (depending on their notification preferences).
Rich text formatting includes bold, italic, underline, bulleted lists, and links. Files of any type can be attached directly to a message, and shared files are stored in the conversation history for later reference.
Reactions and read receipts
Emoji reactions can be added to any message, which is useful for quick acknowledgements without cluttering the thread with extra replies. Read receipts show when a message has been seen by the recipient, so there's no guesswork about whether a message was received.
Linking direct messages to projects and contacts
Direct message conversations can be linked to a project or contact record. When linked, the conversation appears in the project's conversations tab and the contact's activity feed, which keeps discussions discoverable from both the inbox and the related item. Linking a conversation to a project means the discussion stays attached to the work, even as more conversations are added over time.
