Subscription status lifecycle
Every workspace subscription carries one of four statuses that reflects where the account sits in its billing journey: Trial, Active, Past Due, and Cancelled. Status transitions happen automatically as billing events occur, so the subscription always reflects the current state of the account.
Trial
A new workspace starts in Trial status. The trial provides full access to Plutio's features for a limited period without requiring payment. All core tools, projects, tasks, invoices, proposals, contracts, forms, time tracking, automations, and custom pages, work during the trial. When a paid plan is selected and the first payment processes successfully, the status moves from Trial to Active.
Active
Active status means the subscription is paid and current. The workspace has full access to every feature and capacity limit included in the selected plan. Active status continues as long as payments process successfully on each billing cycle. Upgrading or downgrading doesn't change the Active status, because the subscription remains paid throughout.
Past Due
Past Due status triggers when a scheduled payment fails. A declined card, insufficient funds, or an expired payment method can all cause a failed charge. Plutio retries the payment automatically over a grace period, and email notifications alert the workspace owner so the payment method can be updated. The workspace remains functional during the grace period, but if the payment isn't resolved before the grace period ends, the workspace moves to a restricted state where new entities can't be created.
Cancelled
Cancelled status means the subscription has ended. The workspace stays fully active until the current billing cycle completes, and after that, access shifts to a restricted, read-only state. Data remains accessible for a retention period, and resubscribing during that window restores full access with all existing data intact.
The lifecycle flows from Trial to Active on first payment, and only moves to Past Due or Cancelled when billing issues arise or cancellation is requested, so active workspaces stay uninterrupted as long as payments process normally.
