Cancellation and data retention
Cancelling a subscription doesn't remove anything immediately. The workspace stays fully active until the current billing cycle ends, and after that, data is retained through a grace period before any permanent deletion occurs. Exporting data before cancellation ensures a complete backup exists regardless of what happens next.
How cancellation works
Cancellation is initiated from Settings → Billing and plans. Once confirmed, the subscription is marked as cancelled, but the workspace continues to function with full access until the end of the current billing period. All features, team access, and client access remain active through that date, so there's no abrupt loss of service when the cancellation is submitted.
Restricted state
After the billing cycle ends, the workspace enters a restricted state. Existing data is still visible and accessible in read-only mode: projects, contacts, invoices, proposals, contracts, files, and conversations can all be viewed and downloaded. New entities can't be created, edits can't be saved, and team members and clients can't be invited. The restricted state preserves everything that exists without allowing new activity.
Grace period and data retention
Data is retained for a grace period after the subscription ends. During this window, resubscribing to any paid plan restores the workspace to full Active status with all existing projects, contacts, invoices, files, and other data intact. Nothing is lost during the grace period, and the workspace picks up exactly where it left off. After the grace period expires, data may be permanently deleted and can't be recovered.
Data export
Before cancelling, data can be exported from the workspace. Projects, contacts, invoices, files, and other records are downloadable, so a complete backup exists outside of Plutio. Running a data export before cancellation ensures that project histories, client records, financial documents, and uploaded files are preserved regardless of whether the subscription is reactivated later.
