How to use project budget
Project budgets let you set a spending limit for a project and track how much has been used.
Set a project budget
- Open a project.
- Go to the project's Settings tab.
- In the Billing section, enter the Budget amount, which is the total amount allocated for the project.
- Set the project's billing rate, currency, and the Billable project toggle as needed.
How budget tracking works
The amount used updates automatically based on billable time entries logged against the project. Each time entry's billing amount (calculated from the billing rate and duration) counts toward the used budget. Non-billable time entries are excluded.
The budget field shows both the total budget and the used amount side by side, so you can see at a glance how much remains.
Related settings
- Billing rate - the hourly rate used to calculate costs from time entries
- Billable project - toggle whether the project's time entries count toward billing and budget usage
- Currency - the currency for budget and billing amounts
