Creating a project
A new project can come from three places: the create form, a template, or an accepted proposal. However the project starts, the outcome is the same: a container with its own tabs for tasks, invoices, proposals, contracts, files, conversations, time tracking, wiki, and custom pages.
How to create a project from the form
- Open the projects page from the main menu on the left.
- Click "Create project" in the top-right corner of the page. A creation form opens.
- Enter the project title. The title is the only required field, so a project can be created quickly and filled in later.
- Set the client (optional). Pick a person or company from your contacts. The client links to the project, which means invoices, proposals, and conversations created inside the project inherit the client automatically.
- Add contributors (optional). Contributors are team members assigned to the project. They'll have access to the project based on their role permissions.
- Set start and end dates (optional). These define the project timeline and show up in calendar and timeline views.
- Pick a status (optional). Project statuses are fully configurable in your workspace settings, with custom names and colors. The default status gets applied automatically if none is selected.
- Set a budget (optional). Choose between a fixed amount or an hourly rate. The budget tracks against invoiced amounts and tracked time, so project spending stays visible on the overview tab.
- Add a description (optional). The description field supports rich text, so formatting, links, and lists can be added to explain the project scope.
- Fill in custom fields (optional). Any custom fields created for projects show up at the bottom of the form.
- Click "Create project" to save. Plutio opens the new project automatically, ready for content.
How to create a project from a template
- Open the create form the same way (projects page, then "Create project").
- Select a template from the template dropdown at the top of the form. Project templates preserve task boards, task groups, individual tasks, assignee roles, due date offsets, and custom field values.
- Adjust any pre-filled fields as needed. The template fills in the structure, but every field can still be edited before creating.
- Click "Create project". The new project gets the full structure from the template, so a repeatable workflow doesn't need to be rebuilt from scratch each time.
Template permissions carry over too. If the template had role-based or personal permissions configured, those same permissions get copied to the new project.
Auto-creation from proposals
When a proposal gets accepted, Plutio can automatically generate a project with tasks, link the client, and create an invoice from the pricing table. The proposal's details carry over into the new project, so the handoff from signed proposal to active work happens without manual setup. Auto-creation connects proposals, projects, invoices, and client access in a single step.
After creation
Once created, the project gets its own set of tabs: overview, tasks, transactions, invoices, proposals, contracts, calendar, timesheet, conversations, files, wiki, activities, and custom pages. Each tab starts scoped to the project, ready for content to be added.
