Task time tracking
Tracked time on tasks turns into invoice line items, which means the path from doing the work to billing for it runs through a single system. Each task has a built-in timer, and time entries are stored against both the task and the parent project.
Using the timer
The timer starts with one click from the task detail page, the board card, or the list view row. While running, the timer displays elapsed time and can be paused or stopped at any point. Stopping the timer creates a time entry with the task name, duration, date, and an optional description. Multiple time entries can be logged against the same task on different days.
Manual time entries
Time can also be logged manually by entering a duration, date, and description directly on the task. Manual entries are useful for recording work done outside of Plutio or for adding time after the fact. Manual and timer-based entries appear in the same list and are treated identically for reporting and invoicing.
Billing and cost rates
Billing rates determine how tracked time converts to invoice amounts. Rates can be set per user, per project, or per task, and the most specific rate takes priority. Cost rates track what the time actually costs your business, which is useful when team members have different salary levels. Both rates appear on time entries and in the project timesheet.
From time entries to invoices
Unbilled time entries can be converted to invoice line items directly. The conversion pulls in the task name, hours, and billing rate, so each line item arrives pre-filled. Once converted, those entries are marked as billed to prevent double-invoicing.
Time tracked on tasks flows through to the project timesheet and into invoices, so every billable hour is captured and accounted for without re-entering data.
