Sending invoices
Invoices reach clients two ways: by email with a customizable message, or through a direct shareable link. Either way, the client opens the invoice in a branded portal where payment methods and invoice details appear together on one page.
How to send an invoice by email
- Open the invoice you want to send from the invoices page or from within a project.
- Click the "Send" button in the top-right corner. The send dialog opens with a subject line and message body, both pre-filled with defaults.
- Edit the subject and message (optional). You can rewrite the subject line and body text to suit the client or situation before sending.
- Select the recipient. Choose the contact who should receive the invoice email.
- Click "Send". The client receives an email with a "View Invoice" button that opens the invoice in your branded client portal.
If you've configured a custom email domain (via SMTP or Gmail OAuth), the email sends from your domain instead of Plutio's.
View tracking
When a client opens an invoice, Plutio logs the view event with a timestamp, so you can see exactly when the client opened the invoice and decide whether a follow-up is needed.
How to send invoice reminders
Reminders help you follow up on unpaid invoices without writing individual emails.
Automatic overdue reminders. A single on/off toggle in invoice settings controls automatic reminders. When enabled, three reminder emails are sent when an invoice becomes overdue: the first on the same day the invoice becomes overdue, the second on the third day, and the third on the seventh day. Each reminder includes the invoice link and the amount still owed. Both the invoice creator and the client receive these emails.
You can also re-send an invoice manually at any time by opening it and clicking the "Send" button again, which lets you include an updated message.
